Safe Team

A Safe Downtown, Every Step of the Way

The Downtown Safety Guides support the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), property owners and tenants in overall crime prevention efforts and reduction in neighborhood street disorders. Highly trained and distinctly uniformed, Downtown Guides patrol the central business district on bike and on foot 12 - 18 hours a day helping to deter a multitude of quality of life issues and offering the Downtown workforce and visitors an enhanced sense of security.

Through welcoming residents, workers, and visitors to central business district, the Downtown Guides also serve as goodwill ambassadors. With the use of a hand-held personal data assistant (PDA), the Downtown Guide is able to provide walking and driving directions, answer questions and make recommendations for shopping, dining or attractions.

Additionally, Downtown Guides are accompanied on bike patrol by an Outreach Worker from the Multi-Service Center on pre-arranged days to help the Guides better understand and emphasize the needs of the homeless.
