Putt-Putt on Pine Returns to Pine Avenue and Expands to the East Village Arts District
Pine Avenue and the East Village Arts District will be swarming with those wild and crazy golfers on Thursday, May 8, when Leadership Long Beach’s annual fundraiser Putt-Putt on Pine returns to Downtown Long Beach.
Putt-Putt on Pine is a zany miniature golf tournament created by Leadership Long Beach more than a dozen years ago. A signature Leadership Long Beach event, this will be the 13th time that upwards of 400 golfers putt their way up and down Pine Avenue and throughout the East Village during the 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. putting contest.
Here’s how it works: The event starts at the Renaissance Hotel with registration, and then the real fun begins. All participants will get their putters, sample appetizers and drinks and take part in the silent auction, where they’ll have the chance to bid on gift certificates and other merchandise donated by the participating Pine Avenue and East Village merchants.
Each foursome will then venture out into the Downtown to play one of four nine-hole courses—exploring the streets of the East Village Arts District or one of the three courses ranging along Pine Avenue, from the top of Pine at 4thStreet down to businesses and restaurants on lower Pine Avenue in the Pike at Rainbow Harbor. For those who want to experience some added fun, the DLBA has charted the Big Red Bus for the evening to cart golfers back and forth throughout the Downtown.
Each business or restaurant participating in the event will design its own unique, creative hole and set its par. Putters can purchase soft drinks and alcoholic drinks at the restaurants, which also will provide tasty appetizers. Fierce and fun-loving foursomes will seek to out-putt the competing teams in an effort to win tournament prizes, which will be awarded back at the Renaissance Hotel, the “10th hole.” Golfers will be able to vote on several categories, such as Best Hole and Best Food, and awards will be presented to the winning businesses. After the madcap event concludes, be sure to stay Downtown and reward yourself and your Putt Putt teammates with a savory snack or refreshing beverage after all of that putting!
