Downtown Guides Get New Rides
By now, you've seen the Downtown Guides patrolling with a new set of wheels. That’s because the Downtown Long Beach Associates, in collaboration with Segway of Long Beach and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., has provided a new mode of transportation for our Downtown Guides.
The DLBA entered into a partnership with Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. to advertise on the Segways over the next year. The brightly colored billboard displays and Downtown Guide monikers can be seen on the front of the specially-designed billboards installed on each Segway.
Thanks to Segway of Long Beach’s rental stores at The Pike and in the Renaissance Hotel, these personal transportation devices have been rolling through Downtown and along the beach for the past three years. Implementing the Segways into the Guide Program provides many benefits to stakeholders, visitors and residents.
With a platform situated approximately one foot off the ground, the Guides have the benefit of an elevated perspective that allows greater visibility and better views of activity on the streets. The ease of mobility between the Downtown districts is greatly improved, allowing for quicker response time and more efficient travel between stops.
As always, the Guides will be equipped with PDAs allowing them to provide printed directions and additional information about Downtown businesses and attractions.
For more information on the Downtown Guides, please contact Mary Coburn, DLBA Operations Manager, at (562) 485-3133 or at maryc@dlba.org.
